Our Take on Sustainability

Sustainability is a term widely used and with various definitions depending on the context. On the surface it would seem to mean we are ensuring the highest quality landscape year after year utilizing the fewest new resources and the most regenerative practices possible.

But how do we accomplish this goal in detail? Is saving water the only path to increase sustainability?

  • Lawn Mowing

So far, the common way of mowing lawn was by utilizing gas-powered equipment. Blue Lotus Outdoors has started to replace all gas powered equipment with battery powered tools.

One significant step we have taken is to install autonomous, electric mowers for our clients that are dedicated to a customer’s property.

    • Battery Power equals less carbon emissions, less noise & less noxious odor

    • Greater Frequency equals less stress to lawn, greater drought & pest tolerance

    • Mulching equals natural fertilization, greater water uptake and retention

As of 2024, we will be using Scythe robotic lawn mowers to mow commercial and larger residential properties. They are battery-powered and can be operated either by a human or fully autonomously. This will help us provide our services with less air pollution and much more efficiently.

  • Smart Irrigation

Blue Lotus Outdoors has been installing Wi-Fi & Cellular Connected Controllers that bring advantages in various areas:

    • Use less water by shutting down when there has been enough rain

    • Can be set too water less during the cooler months and more when it heats up

    • Can be remotely adjusted with a phone, tablet or computer, no need for a technician to drive to a customer’s property.

    • Can be linked to a flow meter to monitor for leaks

    • See Denver Water for potential rebates on upgrades to your system!

Blue Lotus Outdoors also utilizes High Efficiency Nozzles:

    • Put your water to better use and increase efficiency up to 30%

    • Large droplet size increases wind resistance

    • Adjustable to fit your lawn

    • Lower flow rate reduces runoff

  • Xeriscape & Native Conversions

Blue Lotus Outdoors offers xeric & native conversions.

    • Requires less irrigation, fertilization & maintenance:

Native plants are acclimated to our soils and environment. This means they don’t need the same input as non-native species.

    • Feeds native wildlife & pollinators:

Local wildlife and pollinators have evolved to feed on native plants. When we fill your landscape with non native species we are cutting off the food supply to these animals. This in turn leads to die off up the food chain and a lack of pollination to your plants prompting poor health and increased pests.

    • Unleash the beauty of Colorado!

When you enter Colorado you are greeted with “Welcome to Colorful Colorado.” This is because along with our majestic mountains we are blessed with an abundance of beautiful plants.
